Welcome to Ogliastra, an uncontaminated Sardinian area  rich in marvellous and spectacular naturalistic scenic design.
It seems that the name “Ogliastra” originates from the numerous concentration of wild olive trees.
According to other theories, this name derives from the peak of Agugliastra, located along Baunei coastline.
The territory of Ogliastra is enclosed between the sea and the mountains and offers a wide range of unique views: this is an incredibly beautiful panorama placed on the east side of Sardinia and here nature offers its best. The coastline of Ogliastra is a wonderful oasis set between sea and rocks, that create one of the most enchanting marine environments in the Mediterranean sea. Departing from the northern area, there are some beautiful bays that can be reached only from the sea or walking along some trekking routes, such as the well-known Cala Luna, Cala Sisine, Cala Mariolu and Cala Goloritzé; to the south, you will find the beaches of Cea, Barisardo and Cardedu, Coccorrocci and the gulf of Sarrala. The other enchanting beauty is the mountainous landscape, where nature, gradually changing, develops on the hills to arrive to the mounts of Gennargentu, offering incredibly beautiful views. Urzulei, with the famous Gorroppu Canyon; Baunei, where the calcareous upland of Golgo is found; Jerzu, renewed for its grapevines, it being the land of Cannonau wine; Ulassai, for the fascination of Su Marmuri caves; Sadali and the caves of Is Ianas; Perdà e Liana, an impressive calcareous natural tower on the Ogliastra side of Gennargentu mountain chain.

Arbatax

Close to the promontory of Capo Bellavista (where the lighthouse is found) and to the port from which its name derives, Arbatax is an ancient fisherman village. In Arbatax you will also find the sheer cliffs known as “red rocks” that recall fantastic images from other worlds in  contrast with the blue of the sea. Arbatax is also a Belvedere (panoramic viewpoint) overlooking the small bay of Cala Moresca, a strip of extremely fine sand set in a coastline where rocks alternate from granite to red porphyry.
